Attractions/Events

There is an abundance of things to do and see in Amsterdam and there is as much variety as there are things to visit. We have picked out some of our favourite attractions and events.

Vondel Park – Explore Gothic architecture, marvel at vast expanses of lush greenery or take in an avant-garde production. You can find it all at Amsterdam’s premier park which is great to visit at any time of year.

Heineken Museum – This is more than an attraction for beer lovers. Despite its adult theme it is a great day out for all the family. A tour around the museum provides an educational insight into how beer is made – even giving you the chance to experience what it is like being a beer – and there are many eye-catching displays to enjoy too. There is nearly 50 museums in Amsterdam.

Red Light District – Its reputation precedes it but there is much more to enjoy than just the infamous. Every night there is a carnival atmosphere with plenty of pubs and bars to relax in. It is also home to some colourful shops and impressive evening views of the lakes.

Madame Tussauds – This is a popular attraction for visitors arriving on cheap flights to Amsterdam and a great way to rub shoulders with legends of cinema, music, politics and many more – even if they are waxworks!

Events

Amsterdam International Fashion Week – Taking its inspiration from the more established Milan, New York and Paris Fashion Weeks, the Amsterdam event is a colourful and vibrant affair in late January.

Queen’s Day in Amsterdam – Every year the Netherlands celebrates the Queen’s birthday on 30 April with a national party. The streets and canals of Amsterdam are awash with orange as everyone enjoys the festivities.

Discovering Hidden Gardens – This is less of a festival, more of an annual event that takes place each June. Along Amsterdam’s picturesque canals numerous colourful gardens are opened to the public to be appreciated.
Cinekid – Who said Amsterdam isn’t for children? This cinema festival that takes place in October is dedicated solely to kid’s cinema. During the event there national and international films on show as well as children’s programmes.

International Documentary Film Festival – This is one of the most prominent of its kind and visitors will find a glut of documentary films to enjoy between November and December.
